Abstract:
This report is based on Gallup’s data analysis about desire and potential of migration in the world. Accordingly, Iran Migration Observatory has tried to examine and analyze Gallup’s data about “PNMI” and investigate Iran’s ranking in this index.
Since 2005, Gallup has conducted regular surveys aiming to measure potential of migration and population changes among 160 countries. This institute has published several reports every two or three years. “The Potential Migration Index” refers to people thoughts about migration. This index helps policymakers to control or manage human capital migration in origin countries or provide conditions to attract talents from other countries. Another important point about this index is comparability, which it is possible to compare countries together.
Recently, Gallup has conducted a face-to-face or telephone interviews with half a million adults between 2015 and 2017 and based on its results made “The Potential Net Migration Index”. Alongside this overall index, there are two useful indicators which have been measured by Gallup. The first indicator is “Global Talent Competitiveness Index (GTCI)” and “The Potential Net Youth Migration Index”. The former measures the potential migration of highly-educated people, and the later measures the potential migration of youth (15- 29 years).
