Abstract:
Migration phenomenon, generally, has led to political debates among policy-makers. On the other hand, there is no much attention to positive impacts of immigrant entrepreneurship. In the United States, data shows that immigrants are twice more likely than natives to be an entrepreneur. Immigrant entrepreneurs have established some of the most successful and innovative business companies in the world. However, risk taking of immigrants in starting a new life in host countries can help them to create new ideas in business.
Data shows that immigrants have a higher portion of business founders and innovators in the world. Immigrant ownership in various sectors of economy is different. The highest rate of business start-up by immigrants is related to engineering and technology.
Several theories explain about the relationship between entrepreneurship and migrants; most of these theories refer to the inherent abilities of immigrants which help them to enhance their entrepreneurship abilities; such as risk-taking, higher education, specific knowledge and identity. Studies show that growth of high-tech businesses in science and engineering in U.S. has been largely driven by foreign-born researchers and engineers. however, the latest data shows that the rate of immigrant’s participation in entrepreneurship in U.S. is declining.
